I’ve seen and written some articles on side hustles in the past, but what we’re going to be talking about in this article is eight unique side hustle ideas fresh for this year. For this list, I didn’t just go on the internet and searched up side hustle ideas, pick eight of those random ideas, and then regurgitate information. These are actually ideas that are either off the top of my head or things that I see working right now in the real world.

This is going to be a list of very unique ideas, many of which you have probably never heard of before. Don’t worry, this is not going to involve any type of online surveys, or testing random apps and websites to make 20 bucks. These are going to be legitimate side hustle ideas, some of which could make you $1,000 or more every single day.

All that I ask is if you like any of the ideas mentioned in this article, please at that point drop a comment. You don’t have to do it now you haven’t even seen them yet, but if any of the ideas seem really good to you or any side hustle that you work on right now, just go ahead and drop me that comment. It helps in my research for future articles.

With that being said, let’s get talking.

1. Sidewalk or Driveway Power Washing

The first idea for a side hustle in this list is sidewalk or driveway power washing. Depending on where you live, you might not be familiar with this at all. I’ll tell you for certain in most places they don’t power wash their driveways, they just reseal them. However, in some places like Miami people use a service like that.

It really comes down to the type of driveway that you have, but if you have people in your area with brick driveways or concrete driveways this is going to be much more likely something they would utilize.

Basically, there’s a $400 attachment that you need to pick up for your power washer, and this basically allows you to clean sidewalks and driveways. All in total here between having a good power washer, and then purchasing that attachment you’re looking at probably spending around $750.

Don’t worry if you don’t have any money at all, there are going to be some side hustle ideas later in this article that doesn’t require any money. With all of the homes changing hands right now, with this great migration or a great reshuffling, a lot of new homeowners are looking to spruce up and improve their newly acquired properties.

Another thing with this business is you really just have to land one client in one neighborhood, and then the whole idea here is while you’re doing the power washing of the driveway, sidewalk, or even the whole house, you’re going to put a sign out in the road while you’re doing that. Then you are going to be sort of playing off of the idea of “keeping up with the Joneses”.

What I’ve typically found to be the case looking around is you’ll have a power washing company come in, they’ll wash one house and then they’re going to do a couple of the other neighbors who saw the sign and said “hey you know what, this might be a good time for me to do this as well”.

With this side hustle, I’m confident that you could make anywhere from $500 to $1,000 per day.

Side hustle idea number two is going to be for those who may not have money to invest in a business right now and that is going to be becoming a

2. Comment Moderator

Basically, there are influencers all over the internet, there are also tons of businesses with social media presence online, and with that comes a lot of people that post spam and scam comments on these different platforms. These influencers and businesses will pay a comment moderator to basically go through their Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram comments, and delete anything that is spam or scam-related.

In my opinion, the best way to get started with this business would be to basically find a list of social media Influencers, and then go on their actual platforms and take screenshots of some of the current spam and scam comments. Then you can simply send them an email and say “hey just as a courtesy, you have all of these comments that are on these different posts that you might wanna take care of. Also, I do this as a service if you want to talk about it”.

At that point, you would start off at like $100 per week, and then you could build in additional services above and beyond that after you establish rapport with this business or this particular influencer. And not to mention, this idea costs literally nothing but your time, all you’re going to need is a phone and probably a computer. Both of which you most likely already have.

3. Couch Flipping

This is another side hustle to take advantage of this great reshuffling, and it is none other than couch flipping. This is a pretty simple concept, with most people moving around right now, people are looking to buy a lot of furniture. When you combine that with the supply chain bottlenecks, more people than ever before are purchasing secondhand furniture. And there are a lot of people out there who might be open to purchasing a secondhand couch, or piece of furniture but they don’t necessarily have the truck to move it.

There are also a lot of people in the world that are looking to get rid of a couch either free or very cheap, but they also lack a truck. You would basically be filling that gap, and helping both people out. By having a truck and being able to pick up couches from people’s houses, you’re going to be able to get a really good deal.

Not to mention, a lot of people will literally give decent couches away for free as long as someone is willing to come to move them. You acquire a free or cheap couch costing you at most maybe 100 bucks, then you’re going to bring it home, and you’re going to clean it with a vacuum cleaner and maybe rent a rug doctor for upholstery cleaner, and down the road, you’re probably going to want to buy one of those units. After it’s all cleaned up, you’re going to take better photos, and the key is you’re going to offer free delivery.

Earning Potential

Honestly, you can easily flip a free couch or something that cost you up to$500 with the snap of the fingers, by basically offering that pickup service on one end when you buy it, and the delivery service when you’re selling it to the next owner. So, you’re going to obviously utilize sites like Craigslist and Facebook marketplace for this.

If you’re looking to scale this, what a lot of people do is they will flip couches and flip furniture out of storage units. If you’re looking to purchase a number of different couches at a time, but you don’t have anywhere to put them, eventually you might want to rent a storage unit where you can store them, and then you bring them over maybe to your house where you clean them and sell like one at a time out of your garage,

Probably, most people are going to take you up on that delivery option.

4. Refurbishing Older Wooden Furniture

Again, for the same reasons why secondhand couches are in demand right now, you’re seeing the same thing with other types of furniture for your home as well. It’s honestly amazing what a quick sanding and a coat of paint can do to an outdated old piece of furniture. You see a lot of these older wooden tables and wooden end tables have something that new furniture doesn’t have today, and that is durability.

However, most people don’t want to be looking at old wood furniture in their homes. If you learn the basics of refurbishing, which is essentially sanding, painting, and some minimal reupholstering which basically means stapling new fabric underneath the chair and then putting that seat back down with a couple of screws. It’s really not that difficult, you can flip grandma’s old furniture into something that a millennial would want to buy today. In the process, you can triple or probably quadruple your money.

For example, you can buy a refurbished dining room table for a six-person table obviously with six chairs, that have all been reupholstered with some fabric that you could honestly get at JOANN’s. Say they painted the table legs, they painted the whole table, kind of distressed it on top, painted the chairs and you can end up paying $1,000 for that. That wasn’t just a random example, it was a real example that happened to a friend of mine.

Well, the truth is, that table probably cost them anywhere from $100 to $200 because they bought it in the original dated condition, and then they probably put $50 bucks worth of paint and material into it, to then sell it for $1,000.

What To Do

Now, what you can do is, you can go to Salvation Army and Goodwill, and you would buy any wooden tables that you could get your hands on that were in pretty good condition. Then, you would take them home, sand them, and then you would either stain it, and then put some type of poly on it, or I would simply just paint that piece of furniture and list it on craigslist for anywhere from $50 to $75.

5. Ceiling Decks or Ceiling Fences

If you’re not a homeowner, you might really have no idea that this is even a thing. Ceiling decks and fences basically waterproof them to some extent and give you better protection from the natural elements mostly the rain. That is going to overall extend the longevity of your deck or fence. If your fence or deck isn’t already painted, you’re actually supposed to seal them every single year to keep the water out and make sure that they last long.

However, how many of us are actually doing this? The answer is not too many. For this service, you can earn up to $500 just for ceiling decks and fences, depending on the lengths, and you can spend $50 or $60 to get the water sealers you’ll need for the job. The rest of that money is all yours.

I would definitely recommend having a paint sprayer if you’re going to do this at any type of scale, but the cost of a paint sprayer is maybe $200 to $300, it’s relatively inexpensive to get this side hustle off the ground. As far as finding customers, I would literally just drive through neighborhoods, look for people that have worn out decks or fences, and then potentially knock on their door. If you’re worried about germs or whatever, you could always leave them a personal note and a business card.

6. Sell Custom Stickers

Now, I know what you’re saying, “doesn’t that involve thousands of dollars worth of equipment?” And the answer is it actually doesn’t. In order to do this, you are going to need a Cricut Maker, which is a new craft machine thing that is really growing in popularity a lot. But there are a ton of businesses that you can actually start with a Cricut which is pretty cool. You’re also going to need printable label paper, and then a decent color printer.

Basically, this Cricut machine is what cuts out the stickers, and you’re going to print them on this sticker paper, then you pretty much have a sticker that you can then turn around and sell.

Obviously, the incentive here for someone is getting something that’s customized. You would want to do things like phone case stickers, valentines day relationship stickers, or people’s pets, different things like that. If you actually wanted to cut those costs down even further, you don’t necessarily need the Cricut machine for square stickers. What you could end up doing is starting off with just square stickers that are customized, and for that, you can cut them by hand.

You basically just need a decent printer which most of us already have, and then the required sticker paper, You could then sell stickers at college, or maybe in your high school as long as you don’t get caught. Don’t tell your principal that I told you to do it, but if it’s something you decide to do on your own, I certainly respect the hustle. Stickers for phones, relationship stickers, anything like that, that’s where you’ll have to get creative. But there’s definitely money to be made in the business of custom stickers.

7. Selling Food at Home Depot

Number seven is kind of a funny one, I’m not saying to just go start selling food at home depot. Depending on where you live it might not be a good idea at all. For example, in upstate Newyork, it probably wouldn’t go over very well because people are kind of freaked out about germs and stuff up there, and it is just more of an area where people are going to probably try to sue each other or something. But I’ll tell you in Florida, you see this kind of thing all over the place, where somebody basically sets up a little food stand or maybe even just grilling hot dogs off of the bed of their truck.

Now, I do want to just quickly make this disclaimer.

Always check into any local laws in your area around having a peddlers permit or anything like that, and also most states require you to have a food handlers card. So, you’re going to definitely want to check into all of that before randomly selling food.

But I will tell you that a ton of people are doing this in South Florida, and it’s a pretty decent easy cash business. All you really need is a grill, a small propane tank, and some basic supplies, and you could probably start a business selling hot dogs for under $100. And I bet you could recoup all of your costs on the first day based on how many you can sell.

Finally, the last one on the list is

8. Re-sodding Yards

Now again, depending on whether or not you’re a homeowner, you might not have any idea that this is something that people have to have done. But I’ll tell you, this an extremely lucrative side hustle. If you’re not afraid of working hard, this could be a side hustle that could put thousands of dollars into your pocket.

Essentially, you’re going to have your customers paying for the sod, so everything that they’re paying you directly is for your labor and probably the other people that you have with you helping you out. I’m not kidding, this is a big job that involves raking and hoeing up all of the sod, and then grading the actual soil underneath. For a relatively small yard, you’re looking at probably $5000 worth of labor just to pay these people to come re-sod your yard.

The material itself is actually pretty cheap, a pallet of sod is running $250, and you’re probably going to need about four to five to do a small yard. Most of the cost is the labor, a very small amount is for material, and as I said earlier your customer is going to pay for that material themselves. They’re literally just paying you for the labor.

Tools Needed

In terms of the tools that you need, you pretty much just need some assorted rakes, some shovels, and a hoe. And you’re going to need some bags to put the actual sod in as well. I would also recommend telling your customers that you’ll haul away the sod for an additional fee, but if not, don’t take that material with you, that’s on the homeowner to figure out what to do. Maybe with your basic contract, you just bag it up and put it in a designated part of their yard. Or depending on where you’re at, they might come around and pick those bags up, so, you could bring those out to the curb.

The tools required for this will cost you under a hundred bucks, all of the work is in the labor. If you’re not afraid to work hard, you could be making thousands of dollars every single week by resodding yards.

Anyways, that’s going to wrap up this article, I hope you enjoyed reading it. Let me know if you have any thoughts about these side hustles down in the comment section. Peace and Happy Hustling!
